The accidental ocean that became a mid-century institution
Those who never visited it during its heyday will probably find it hard to imagine just how wonderful a recreational environment the Salton Sea once was. It truly was a workin’ man’s paradise – a “redneck riviera.”
My family had a little retreat there from 1964 to 1970, during the last few years of its ascendancy. Here are a few photos from that time. There are others and I’ll have them up as soon as I find them.
